Shock as Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong Leads to Influencer’s Death – Doctors Summoned to Court

A shocking case has unfolded involving the death of social media influencer Lucy Wambui Kamau following complications from a cosmetic surgery procedure. Wambui underwent a liposuction 360/BBL at Omnicare Medical on October 14, 2024. After being discharged four days later, she developed severe health issues and was eventually rushed to Nairobi Hospital. Doctors discovered multiple perforations in her intestines, leading to an emergency operation, but she tragically passed away on October 26 due to extensive internal complications.

Her death led to a criminal investigation, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) gathered evidence, prompting the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to file manslaughter charges against key figures from Omnicare Medical. Those charged include George Wakaria Njoroge and Lilian Edna Wanjiru, directors of the clinic, along with Dr. Robert Maweu Mutula, a surgeon involved in the procedure.

Despite being summoned to court for plea-taking, the accused failed to appear, citing late service of summons. Their lawyers argued that they had already secured anticipatory bail from the High Court to prevent their arrest. However, the prosecution insisted they had been properly served and pushed for arrest warrants. The court ordered them to appear on April 2, 2025.

In their defense, the accused claim that Wambui had given informed consent and was aware of the risks. They argue that prosecuting medical professionals for complications could set a dangerous precedent for the industry. However, the case has sparked intense debates about medical accountability, patient safety, and the ethical responsibilities of cosmetic surgery practitioners.

The court proceedings are expected to continue, with widespread public interest in whether the legal system will hold the medical team accountable or accept their defense of informed consent and procedural legitimacy.
