FKF Launches Investigation into Match-Fixing Allegations Involving Patrick Matasi

​The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has initiated an investigation into alleged match-fixing involving goalkeeper Patrick Matasi. This action follows the circulation of a video on social media purportedly showing Matasi discussing match manipulation strategies with an unidentified individual.​

In an official statement, FKF acknowledged awareness of the video's content and confirmed collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and other pertinent authorities to thoroughly examine the allegations. The federation emphasized that the investigation will adhere strictly to FIFA's Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations, ensuring the rights of all parties involved are respected. They have also appealed to the public for credible information, assuring that all reports will be handled with strict confidentiality.​

This incident has reignited discussions about match-fixing in Kenyan football, a concern that has previously led FKF to seek legislative measures to criminalize such activities. In April 2023, FKF President Nick Mwendwa addressed the National Assembly’s Sports and Culture Committee, highlighting the absence of local laws to effectively tackle match-fixing. He pointed out that individuals suspected of match manipulation often evade prosecution due to legislative gaps, underscoring the need for legal reforms to protect the integrity of the sport.

The federation has been proactive in addressing this issue, having suspended multiple players and officials in the past over similar allegations.
