Muslim Advisory Council Urges President Ruto To dissolve waqf panel over bias concerns

The Kenya Muslim National Advisory Council (KEMNAC), led by Chairman Sheikh Juma Ngao, has called on President William Ruto to dissolve the newly appointed panel overseeing the Muslim endowment fund (Waqf). KEMNAC cites concerns of bias in the panel's composition and selection process.

Sheikh Ngao emphasized the necessity for transparency and inclusivity in the panel's formation to ensure it truly represents the interests of the broader Muslim community. He stated that the current panel's composition does not reflect the diversity and inclusiveness that KEMNAC advocates for.

This call for action is consistent with KEMNAC's history of advocating for fair representation and accountability within governmental and religious institutions. Previously, Sheikh Ngao has addressed issues such as the controversial remarks by Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, emphasizing the importance of interfaith respect and unity.

KEMNAC's appeal to President Ruto underscores the need for a thorough review of the Waqf panel's formation process, aiming to establish a body that genuinely serves the interests of all Muslims in Kenya.
